Advanced CEREC Technology for Beautiful, Lasting Restorations

At Isabella Avenue Dentistry, we use state-of-the-art CEREC technology to design, mill, and place custom dental crowns in a single appointment. There is no need for temporary crowns, multiple visits, or weeks of waiting on an outside lab. Our Coronado dental team has been at the forefront of same day crown technology for over 15 years, and we are proud to offer our patients a faster, more convenient, and more comfortable path to a fully restored smile.

What Is a Dental Crown

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that fits over the top of a damaged or weakened tooth, covering it completely and restoring its natural shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns are sometimes called "caps" because they encase the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gumline.

Your dentist may recommend a dental crown if you have a tooth that has been weakened by a large cavity or extensive decay, a tooth that has cracked or fractured, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment and needs added protection, a tooth that is severely worn down or misshapen, or a tooth that supports a dental bridge or sits on top of a dental implant.

Dental crowns made from high-quality porcelain are color matched to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth, so your restoration will look and feel like a natural part of your smile.

Same Day Crowns with CEREC Technology

Traditional dental crowns require at least two appointments spaced several weeks apart. During the first visit, your tooth is prepared and a temporary crown is placed while your permanent crown is fabricated at an outside dental lab. You then return for a second visit to have the temporary removed and the permanent crown cemented. This process can take two to three weeks and involves being numbed twice.

CEREC same day crowns eliminate that entire waiting period. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it is an advanced system that allows our dentists to digitally design and mill your custom crown right here in our Coronado office while you wait.

Here is how the CEREC process works at Isabella Avenue Dentistry:

Digital Scanning. Rather than using messy traditional impressions, we capture a precise 3Dimage of your tooth using our Omnicam intraoral scanner. This digital scan provides our dentists with a highly detailed view of your tooth and the surrounding area.

Virtual Design. Using the CEREC software, your dentist designs your new crown on screen, customizing its shape, contour, and fit to work seamlessly within your natural bite. You can see the design of your crown before it is milled.

In-Office Milling. Your custom crown is milled from a solid block of high-quality dental ceramic right in our office. The milling process takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, during which you can relax comfortably.

Same Day Placement. Once your crown is milled and polished, your dentist will check the fit, make any final adjustments, and permanently bond the crown to your tooth. You leave our office with your completed restoration in place, all in a single visit.

The entire process, from preparation through final placement, typically takes about one to two hours.

Dental Implant Crowns

Replace a missing tooth with a permanent, natural-looking implant crown that restores your smile's appearance and function. A lasting alternative to bridges and partial dentures.

Crown Replacement

If an older crown is worn, damaged, or no longer fitting properly, our team can replace it with a new CEREC crown in a single visit.

Benefits of Same Day Crowns

Same day crowns offer a number of meaningful advantages over the traditional two-visit crown process. For many patients, the convenience and comfort of completing their restoration in a single appointment is reason enough to choose CEREC. Here is a closer look at what makes same day crowns a wonderful option:

One Appointment, One Visit. Your crown is designed, fabricated, and placed on the same day. There is no need for a second appointment, no temporary crown to manage, and no additional numbing.

No Temporary Crowns. Temporary crowns can sometimes feel loose, fall off, or cause sensitivity while you wait for your permanent restoration. With CEREC, you skip the temporary entirely and go straight to your final crown.

Precise Digital Fit. The combination of digital scanning and computer-aided design produces a crown with an exceptionally accurate fit. This precision helps ensure long-term comfort and durability.

Beautiful, Natural Results. CEREC crowns are milled from high-quality dental ceramic that is color matched to your natural teeth. The result is a strong, stain-resistant restoration that blends beautifully with your smile.

Time Saving. For patients with busy schedules, completing the entire crown process in a single visit means less time away from work, family, and the things that matter most to you.

Our dedication to CEREC technology extends beyond our own practice. Dr. Strommer co-founded Dentistry for Humanity and the Crown Our Community initiative, which has raised over $65,000 in partnership with the sdCEREC StudyClub and its members to support the dental clinic at Veterans Village SanDiego. This commitment to using technology for the benefit of others reflects the values at the heart of everything we do at Isabella Avenue Dentistry.

When a Same Day Crown May Be Right for You

Same day crowns are an excellent option for most patients who need a dental crown. Our dentists may recommend a CEREC crown to restore a tooth that has been significantly weakened by decay, to protect a tooth after root canal treatment, to repair a tooth that has cracked, chipped, or fractured, to replace an old or failing crown, or to improve the appearance and function of a misshapen or severely worn tooth.

During your appointment, Dr. Strommer or Dr. Jagger will evaluate your tooth and help you determine whether a same day crown is the best option for your situation. In some cases, such as very complex restorations or crowns that require specialized lab techniques, a traditional lab-fabricated crown may be recommended instead. Our team will always be transparent about which approach will give you the best result.
