Discreet, Comfortable Teeth Straightening for Adults and Teens

A straighter smile can change the way you look and feel, and Invisalign makes it possible to get there without the look and feel of traditional metal braces. At Isabella Avenue Dentistry, our Coronado dental team has been helping patients achieve beautifully aligned smiles with Invisalign since 2003. With over two decades of experience and advanced digital scanning technology, we provide personalized Invisalign treatment that fits seamlessly into your life.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal position. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately one to two weeks before being replaced by the next set in the series. Over the course of your treatment, your teeth move gently and predictably toward the result that you and your dentist have planned together.

The aligners are made from a smooth, BPA-free plastic that fits snugly over your teeth. They are virtually invisible when worn, which means most people will not notice that you are straightening your teeth at all. The aligners are also removable, so you can take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss. This makes Invisalign one of the most convenient and lifestyle-friendly orthodontic options available.

Treatment length varies depending on the complexity of your case, but most adult Invisalign treatments are completed in 12 to 18 months. Some patients with milder alignment concerns may finish in as few as six months.

What Invisalign Can Correct

Invisalign is effective for a wide range of alignment and bite concerns. Our dentists may recommend Invisalign if you have crowded teeth that overlap or are difficult to clean, gaps or spaces between your teeth, an overbite where the upper teeth extend too far over the lower teeth, an underbite where the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth, a crossbite where some upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth when you close your mouth, or an open bite where the upper and lower teeth do not meet when your mouth is closed.

Invisalign is also an excellent option for patients who had braces earlier in life but have experienced some shifting since then. In many cases, a shorter course of Invisalign treatment can restore the alignment you once had.

During your consultation, Dr. Leslie Strommer or Dr. Amy Jagger will evaluate your teeth, your bite, and your overall oral health to determine whether Invisalign is the right approach for your goals.

Your Invisalign Journey at Isabella Avenue Dentistry

Our team has refined the Invisalign process over more than two decades of experience to make your treatment as smooth, efficient, and enjoyable as possible. Here is what you can expect at each stage.

Consultation and Digital Scan. Your journey begins with a thorough consultation at our Coronado office. Our dentists will evaluate your teeth and bite, discuss your goals, and determine whether Invisalign is right for you. If it is, we will take a detailed digital scan of your teeth using our ITERO 5D scanner. This advanced scanner captures a high-resolution 3D image of your mouth in minutes, without the need for messy traditional impressions.

Your Custom Treatment Plan. Using the digital scan, our dentists will map out the precise movements your teeth need to make and show you a virtual preview of how your smile will look at each stage of treatment. You will be able to see your projected final result before your aligners are even made.

Receiving Your Aligners. Once your custom aligners are fabricated, you will receive your first several sets along with clear instructions on how to wear and care for them. You will wear each set of aligners for approximately one to two weeks, for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush and floss.

Progress Checkups. You will visit our office approximately every six to eight weeks so our dentists can monitor your progress and provide you with your next sets of aligners. These appointments are brief and are a great opportunity to ask questions and celebrate how far your smile has come.

Your New Smile. Once your treatment is complete, you will wear a custom retainer to help your teeth maintain their new position. Our team will discuss your retainer schedule and provide ongoing support to make sure your results last.

Benefits of Choosing Invisalign

Invisalign offers several meaningful advantages over traditional braces, and these benefits are a big part of why it has become one of the most popular orthodontic treatments for adults and teens.

Virtually Invisible. The clear aligners are designed to be discreet. Most people will not notice you are wearing them, which makes Invisalign a popular choice for working professionals, adults who prefer a subtle approach, and teens who want to avoid the look of metal braces.

Removable for Eating and Cleaning. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed whenever you eat or drink. There are no food restrictions, and you can brush and floss your teeth normally, which helps maintain your oral health throughout treatment.

Comfortable Fit. The smooth plastic aligners are custom made to fit your teeth precisely. There are no brackets to irritate your cheeks or wires to poke your gums, and most patients find Invisalign significantly more comfortable than traditional braces.

Fewer Office Visits. Invisalign checkups are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks, which means fewer appointments overall compared to the monthly adjustments that traditional braces usually require.

Predictable Results. The digital treatment planning process allows you to see a virtual preview of your expected outcome before treatment begins. This gives you confidence in the plan and a clear picture of where your smile is heading.

Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

Both Invisalign and traditional braces are effective tools for straightening teeth, and the best choice depends on your individual situation. Here is how they compare.

Invisalign aligners are clear and nearly invisible, while traditional braces use metal or ceramic brackets and wires that are visible on the teeth. Invisalign aligners are removable, which means you can eat whatever you like and maintain your normal brushing and flossing routine. Traditional braces are fixed to the teeth for the duration of treatment and require you to avoid certain hard, sticky, or chewy foods.

Invisalign treatment typically requires fewer office visits and shorter appointments. Traditional braces require monthly adjustment appointments. Most patients find Invisalign more comfortable because the smooth aligners do not irritate the soft tissues of the mouth the way brackets and wires can.

Invisalign is effective for a wide range of alignment and bite concerns, though very complex orthodontic cases may still benefit from traditional braces. Our dentists will evaluate your specific needs during your consultation and recommend the approach that will give you the best result.
